Best Roadside Waterfalls — No Hike Required

Some of the world's most photographed waterfalls are quite literally roadside attractions. These ten are visible from a parking pull-off or within a 5-minute walk of one — perfect for road trips, family travel, and visitors with limited mobility. All ten on the map.

1. Skógafoss, Iceland

60 metres tall, directly off the Ring Road — Iceland's most accessible major fall. Parking and short flat walk.

2. Tvindefossen, Norway

152-metre fan beside the E16 between Voss and Gudvangen. Layby parking; 30-metre walk to the base.

3. Wallace Falls roadside view, Washington

Stevens Pass section of US 2 in Washington passes within 200 metres of multiple seasonal cliff falls.

4. Mealt Falls, Skye, Scotland

Park 30 metres from the Kilt Rock viewpoint and watch a 55-metre coastal fall disappear into the wind. Trotternish, Isle of Skye.

5. Goðafoss, Iceland

30 metres wide and 12 metres tall on Iceland's Ring Road near Akureyri — viewing platforms on both banks accessed by 200 m walks.

6. Latefossen, Norway

Twin 165-metre falls landing beside a stone road bridge in Hardanger. Park at the bridge; the falls are 30 m away.

7. Pissevache, Switzerland

114-metre fall on the Trient visible directly from the road between Martigny and Vernayaz. Layby parking.

8. Multnomah Falls, Oregon

Historic Columbia River Highway passes within 100 m. The lower viewing platform is wheelchair-accessible.

9. Sutherland Falls partial view, Milford Road

The Milford Road (SH94) in NZ passes within sight of dozens of cliff falls during heavy rain — the road becomes lined with waterfalls.

10. Snoqualmie Falls, Washington

82-metre fall 30 minutes east of Seattle on I-90. Free parking lot 50 m from upper viewpoint; wheelchair-accessible.
