Top 10 Waterfalls in Nepal

Nepal's waterfalls divide between monsoon-fed lowland torrents and Himalayan glacier-fed alpine plunges. The Pokhara basin and the Annapurna trekking routes hold the highest concentration. All ten on the map.

1. Devi's Fall (Patale Chhango), Pokhara

An unusual fall that disappears into a sinkhole in central Pokhara, with no visible exit downstream. Named after a Swiss tourist who drowned in 1961.

2. Hyatung Falls, Tehrathum

367-metre triple-tier — Nepal's tallest waterfall, in eastern Tehrathum district. Remote; reached by 4-hour jeep then 2-hour walk.

3. Rupse Falls, Mustang

Roadside fall on the Annapurna Circuit Lower Mustang section — visible from the Kali Gandaki gorge highway.

4. Bhotekoshi Falls

Multi-stage cascade on the Bhotekoshi river near the Tibet border (Tatopani). Adventure rafting put-in just downstream.

5. Begnas Falls, Pokhara

Cascade on the Begnas lake outflow east of Pokhara. Combine with kayaking on Begnas and Rupa lakes.

6. Phokshundo Falls, Dolpa

150-metre fall below Phoksundo Lake in remote western Nepal. Trekkers' destination; permit required for restricted Lower Dolpa.

7. Jhumlawang Falls, Rukum

Roadside cascade in Rukum district, central-west Nepal. Visible from the Chaurjahari-Musikot highway.

8. Naina Bhagwati Falls, Sindhuli

Forest cascade in Sindhuli district. Locally sacred; pilgrimage activity in winter.

9. Bhairabsthan Falls, Palpa

Cascade beside the Bhairabsthan temple in Palpa district. Combines temple visit with viewpoint walk.

10. Tinjure Falls, Ilam

Forested cascade in Ilam tea country, eastern Nepal. Combine with tea garden walking tours and rhododendron season (March-April).
