Top 10 Waterfalls in Wales
Wales packs more accessible waterfalls per square kilometre than almost anywhere in Britain. The 'Waterfall Country' near Pontneddfechan and Snowdonia's high cwms hold the densest concentrations. All ten on the map.
1. Sgwd yr Eira, Brecon Beacons
Walk-behind fall on the Hepste, the centrepiece of Wales's Waterfall Country. 1 km descent from Penderyn road.
2. Henrhyd Falls, Brecon Beacons
27 metres — South Wales's tallest fall. Featured as the Batcave entrance in the 2012 film The Dark Knight Rises.
3. Aber Falls (Rhaeadr Fawr), Snowdonia
37-metre plunge on the Afon Goch near Abergwyngregyn. 2 km easy walk from the car park; year-round flow.
4. Pistyll Rhaeadr, Powys
73-metre three-tier cascade on the Disgynfa, one of the Seven Wonders of Wales. Café and B&B at the lower viewpoint.
5. Swallow Falls (Rhaeadr Ewynnol), Snowdonia
Cascade through a wooded gorge on the Llugwy near Betws-y-Coed, with paid viewing platform. Year-round flow.
6. Devil's Bridge Falls, Ceredigion
Three superimposed stone bridges over a deep gorge with cascade below; 91-metre total drop. Vale of Rheidol steam railway terminus.
7. Sgwd Clun-Gwyn, Brecon Beacons
Two-step fall on the Mellte in Waterfall Country, on the popular Four Waterfalls walk from Cwm Porth car park.
8. Sgwd y Pannwr, Brecon Beacons
Final fall on the Four Waterfalls walk: 3 metres tall and very wide, with a large bathing pool. Popular with wild swimmers.
9. Conwy Falls, Snowdonia
Two-stage 12-metre fall on the Afon Conwy, with restaurant and turnstile-entry trail. Salmon leap in autumn.
10. Rhaeadr Cynfal, Snowdonia
Two-stage cascade on the Afon Cynfal near Ffestiniog, with a stone pillar in the middle pool — Hugh Lloyd's Pulpit (1568).
